Hitting the perfect pitch shot is determined by how the ball lies. You don’t have to change anything about your position most of the time. You just have to play the ball the way it lies. So first you need your “check test.”

You need to a “check test” before your pitch shot. Then you have to  examine wherever your ball lies. There are 3 ways your ball will most likely lie The first way is in a sitting up position in the fairway. The second way is if the ball is sitting in a slight rough. And 3rd way is if the ball sitting in a deep rough. Lets look at how we can hit a perfect crisp pitch shot in these scenarios .

When the ball is sitting up- This means the ball is resting above the grass. When pitching from the fairway, you want to keep your stance the same, and place the ball in the center of your feet. Here your swing will bottom out with the spot of your ball. This is the best way to hit your pitch shots because there is no interference from grass.

When the ball is sitting moderately down in the rough-This where some of the ball is sits above the grass, and some is inside the grass In this case, you will position the ball to the center of your back foot.  You want your shaft to lean towards your target, so you want to set your hands in front of your zipper. You want a good solid hit on the ball, not the turf.

When the ball is in a deep rough-This is where half of your ball is deep in the grass  In this case, you will place the ball to front center of your stance (front foot).  Now, keep your hands in front of your zipper, and swing at the ball to bottom out.  As you do this, your shaft will lean away from your target.  The loft of your club is doing the most work, and gives you a large clubface.
