The Volkswagen Scirocco energetic form of golf
HISTORY
Golf coupes were by no means a new idea is, if this title = "Volkswagen sell my> VW Scirocco in 2008 launched in. The first car to carry the Scirocco name (of Sirocco, the Italian for wind, if you interested derived) was launched in 1974 and is based on mk1 golf mechanics. It was replaced in 1982 by a heavily revised Scirocco mk2 who share the same platform. The Scirocco does not disappear from the Volkswagen range to 1988, when Corrado arrived on the mk2 Golf platform, to replace it, but if the production of the vehicles ended in 1996, so has the burgeoning dynasty of cars combined with golf basics coupe body.
Although the Golf GTI models were on hand to Volkswagen Customer love to meet sporty, they never have cars with the power to pedestrians staring fool with a simple turn over. Volkswagen went without a real eye-catcher for more than a decade before the long-awaited revival of the Scirocco in 2008.
This Scirocco is on the oily bits of the Golf 5, not a million miles away from the MK6 in the car used. It was unveiled to much praise at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show, was strongly indicated by the IROC concept car, which played in Paris two years ago.
Started with 2.0-liter TSI on the Golf GTI turbo petrol engine and the ability to trim standard or GT, was the Scirocco soon by the arrival of a 2.0-liter TDI engine amplified in 140 hp and 170 characters. The engine range has also been made with the involvement of the 160bhp twin-charge gasoline engine which for a smaller 1.4-liter capacity by Bolted to the turbocharger and compressor. The flagship of 2.0 TSI 200 PS unit to 210bhp updated in 2009.
In 2010, a Entry-level 1.4 TSI petrol engine was introduced with a turbocharger and 122bhp. At the opposite end of things, my Volkswagen> Volkswagen Scirocco has the high-performance model. They took the 265bhp Version of the 2.0 TSI engine from Audi S3 was previously seen in the but, unlike the four-wheel-drive Golf R debuted at the same time, she stuck to the front-wheel-drive layout the standard Scirocco.
WHAT YOU GET
The styling is a big part of the Scirocco attraction. The car is ready, attractive, modern, and accordingly far from the Gulf tells its platform removed. The powerful rear hips, and the dramatic roof line, the drops make it stand still, while the thin lattice is used to visually widen the car. Volkswagen is not known for his stylistic innovation, but this is a model in which the mark hit the nail on the head.
The Scirocco cabin cocoons its occupants in the familiar Volkswagen design elements and construction quality. The cocoon is on the narrow side for adults in the back seat, but the two front Bunks offer comfort, space and a good driving position for assessing the person behind the three-spoke sport steering wheel. The interior is airy and light, and the optional panoramic sunroof stresses Furthermore, the feeling of spaciousness.
The Scirocco is very practical for a sports coupe, but a good few notches less than a three-door Golf. There is a fairly wide opening boot that opens to 292 liters of luggage space. Fold the split rear seats down and you get 755 liters. The Scirocco offers four individual seats sculptures finished in either fabric or leather. The sports seats are not only limited to those front – the contoured rear seats with integrated head restraints offer much support. Shares for this car are classic short, low and wide, although the dimensions reveal their dependence on golf mechanics. The vehicle measures 4256 mm long, 1404 mm high and 1,810 mm in width.
What You Pay
The demand for the Scirocco was still strongly influenced by the initial and residual values buoyant Used initially with slightly changing hands for more than the list price. The cheapest way to is to search for a 160bhp 1.4-liter TSI model on a 58-plate. You be around £ 18,500 to pay for one of these cars while a 140bhp 2.0-liter diesel on the same plate £ 500 will be more. The 2.0-liter TSI was the first Scirocco on the scene and still command £ 20,000 for a 08-drive car, the £ 20,700 when new was. The DSG gearbox is a delight and comes to a £ 1,200 premium over GT is worth a further £ 1,000 more trim.
What to Look For
Keep whipped out for cars that were of enthusiastic owners, and to ensure that maintenance must be assiduously. Otherwise Scirocco has a good reputation for reliability. When the car with the optional DSG paddle-shift gear lever fitted check that all ratios engage smoothly and cleanly, especially reverse. DSG problems are very costly to resolve.
SPARE PARTS
(Approx. on a 2008 Scirocco based 2.0TSI GT excl VAT) A clutch will be about 150 and an alternator should be close to € 200. Front and rear brake pads are about £ 65 and £ 55 respectively.
ON THE ROAD
is installed with a spicy Turbo petrol engine, the Scirocco is nothing less contagious. The basics, as we have said, are of the Mk5 VW Golf stolen but engineering library has felt in the production of the small coupe success more than the sum of its parts – and the golf itself is no slouch in the fun Operations. In many cases, drivers will be predisposed to bond with the Scirocco, having been seduced by her pert and beautifully detailed street outside the Lower in the interior.
The TDI diesel definitely removes some of that luster. It is not as sweet sounding with a power output less linear than the petrol options and a less than exciting 0-60mph acceleration of 9.3s in 140bhp form, but the essential vitality of the Scirocco remains. The 2.0-liter TDI could be behind a straight race to 60mph but with 320Nm torque output even in the form of 140hp, it has a mid-range power delivery will also get the 2.0-liter TFSI gasoline engine takes in the shade and it makes a surprisingly capable of long distance car. There's also the small matter of 55mpg economy factor
The 2.0-liter Turbo is the engine with its smooth power delivery and engine have observed. 0-60mph takes 7.2s in the 200 hp version and the economy still come close to 40mpg. The 160bhp 1.4-liter TSI unit, if any, is still effervescent tablets with 0-60mph 8s 42mpg time and making it a decent replacement for the range-topper.
The key to the progress of the Scirocco made use of the equivalent value golf center to its dynamic support. Comfort, Normal and Sport – Most models have Adaptive chassis control offers three advanced driver settings selected. The system Influence extends to the steering system: should 'sport' be selected, steering business to offer up more as "comfort" mode feel makes the steering lighter and easier to operate at low speeds or in town. The standard six-speed manual gearbox is light and refined, but Volkswagen excellent 6-speed DSG gearbox is worth finding. Enable you to choose automatic mode or flick between relationships with shift paddles.
TOTAL
One is through and through well-executed small coupe, the Scirocco tailored to buyers who find a three-door Golf a little boring. Based on the excellent Golf 5 chassis with some of the car at the best engines, the Scirocco looks and feels especially when turning in a polished performance on the Street. Is practically down to what you expect in a three-door but a reasonable and viable boat rear seats the car far ahead of most compact sports car you to mention.
